Location

Where it is

The Country Club of Ocala sits in southeast Ocala off SE 80th Street, also known as County Road 328, about a mile east of CR 475. The club itself is at 6823 SE 12th Circle, just west of the Santos Trailhead, so the trails of the Florida Greenway are practically next door.

The location was the whole point. The community was pushed for by doctors and local backers who wanted a private golf community closer to Ocala's hospitals and offices than the clubs on the northwest side.

History

How it started

The 410 acres were originally headed for a two-acre-lot subdivision. In the early 1990s, developers Albert Peek and John Rudnianyn joined a group led by retired radiologist Dr.

Duke West, whose idea was a clubhouse "surrounded by golf, so you could hardly see homes." After a long permitting fight, the Country Club of Ocala opened in January 1994.

By its 20th anniversary in 2014, the community had 210 home sites and was essentially built out. The Ocala StarBanner reported that the median price of a vacant one-acre lot here was $59,550 when it opened, $93,500 in 1999 and $150,000 in 2004.

POA assessments vary by lot and club dues are separate. Confirm both for the home. Sources are listed at the bottom of the page.

This is the most important thing to understand before you buy. The Country Club of Ocala Property Owners Association, Inc. governs the neighborhood, the common areas and the recorded rules, and every owner pays its assessments.

The golf and country club is a separate private business with its own membership categories and dues.

POA assessments vary by lot, and one public listing example showed about $2,442 a year. Club membership, initiation and food minimums come from the club's membership office, so ask for current numbers and the POA resale package early, then get an estoppel certificate during the contract to confirm what's owed at closing.

With no age restriction, it's a mix of families, working professionals and retirees, and junior golf and family events are part of the calendar.

Golf

Golf at the Country Club of Ocala

The 18-hole, par 72 championship course was designed by Steve Nugent and runs over rolling terrain lined with oaks and hardwoods, which is unusual for Central Florida. It plays 7,007 yards from the back tees with a USGA rating of 73.8, and it's been voted Best Golf Course by Ocala Magazine twice.

Competitive amateurs from around the state know it well. There's a driving range, a short game area and putting greens for practice.

The club

New ownership in 2025

Heritage Golf Group, which owns and runs 46 clubs nationwide, bought the Country Club of Ocala in late October 2025 as part of a three-club Florida deal. Court records cited by the Jacksonville Daily Record put the Ocala price at $7.5 million.

Heritage said early capital improvement plans would be guided by member and staff feedback. If you're buying, ask the club what's planned and when, since course or clubhouse projects can mean some temporary construction.

Homes

The homes

Homes here are custom and semi-custom single-family designs, from about 2,000 square feet to estates over 5,000 square feet, in a wide mix of architectural styles. Live oaks and big lots give most homes real privacy, and many back to a fairway or look out over a neighboring horse farm.

Because it's built out, new construction is rare, and prices swing widely with lot size, golf frontage and finishes. Plan on a home-by-home price check rather than a neighborhood average.

Who it fits

Who the Country Club of Ocala fits

It's a great fit if you want an acre or more behind a 24-hour guarded gate, a serious golf course and a full club, and you don't want an age-restricted community. If you're 55 or older and want a newer home with a monthly fee that covers more, compare Candler Hills or Stone Creek.
